Freedom Camping Update in Beresford Street, New Brighton. I have - TopicsExpress

Freedom Camping Update in Beresford Street, New Brighton. I have contacted Council staff about this and they are working on this as follows: The Council has received a number of complaints about freedom camping activities in the Beresford Street carpark. It would appear that there has been a recent increase in the number of people using the carpark for freedom camping purposes. This was not a site identified as being associated with freedom camping at the commencement of our trial (monitoring of known freedom camping sites) in October 2014. Council staff visited the site yesterday and spoke with a number of residents, some of whom had concerns about camping at the site and others who were not bothered by it. Specific issues raised by residents included noise, (i.e. banging of car doors and talking at night) rubbish, ball games being played and general nuisance. It would appear that the recent increase in the number of people using the site is possibly as a result of social media and it appearing on a European website as a free place to camp. As of 7 January 2015 the freedom camping trial has been extended to include the Beresford car park. Council staff are working collaboratively to consider proactive and meaningful solutions that can be applied to this Council owned property.
