Freedom for the artist Youssef Abdelke. Freedom for all detainees - TopicsExpress

Freedom for the artist Youssef Abdelke. Freedom for all detainees in the prisons of the Syrian regime. We, the artists, friends of art, and supporters of the cause of freedom from all over the world, affirm our complete solidarity with the Syrian artist Youssef Abdelke, detainee in Syria since 18 July 2013, and we strongly demand his immediate release and the release of his two companions who were arrested with him, Adnan al-Dibis and Tawfiq Omran, and for the release of all political prisoners in the jails of the Syrian regime. Abdelke did not concede a day in demanding the freedom and dignity of his people and working to establish a civil and democratic state in his country. This was true both before and during his long, forced exile in Paris, and remained true recently after it was possible for him to return to his country. He choose and was keen to stay in Damascus in recent years, despite the difficulties of daily life and the dangers of surviving under a regime with an unlimited capacity for violence. Abdelke was never enticed to doubt that the best option was to stay with his people, to share in their daily dangers and torments -- to resist peacefully, and to paint and draw relentlessly in the service of that struggle.
