Freedom of speech continues to be a core value of the Boycott - TopicsExpress

Freedom of speech continues to be a core value of the Boycott Brunei page. In response to the posting of the new Boycott Brunei page guidelines, there were concerns raised by some users about how the guidelines would impact on freedom of speech. Ironically, the only ones who have raised these concerns are the very same ones who consistently oppose the idea of free speech and who use intimidation and threats to try to silence those who express a different view. Let me assure everyone that your freedom to voice your opinion on this page continues to be upheld and I reiterate that the guidelines are there for everyones benefit by addressing abusive behaviour and unfair use of the page. While a majority of users have been responsible in the way they use this page, there are a minority who have made it necessary to establish the guidelines. Those few who continue to violate the guidelines will be blocked, but perhaps they should consider the following before they continue to flout the rules: If the only way you can express opposition to an alternative view is by using abusive language and intimidation or by spamming the page in an attempt to stifle debate and prevent others from using their right to free speech, then does that not bring into question the strength of those beliefs that you are unable to constructively defend as well as undermine the efforts of others with a similar view who are trying to put forward a serious argument?
