Friday 27th June, there was only 550 packets to be given out. But it was a long night and it took us till 1.30am to distribute every packet to the hungry ones. We reached Kota raya slightly late at 10.40pm and the crowd was a much reduced one. This was likely due to DBKL starting its routine Friday raid much earlier and other groups that were feeding the hungry ones around that area. After Kota Raya, we proceeded to Sungkai,then to Masjid Negara, then to petaling Street, then to Tiong Nam. Its been a long time since we last visited Tion Nam. Yet there were elderly folks who were hungry there past mid night. We then continued to weave through the dark back alleys of Lorong Haji Taib,Chow Kit looking for people to feed, before we proceeded back to Tune hotel, where the last packet of food was given out. There are some recipients who we have not seen for more than a year 2 kali penjara, 1 kali pusat confided one of them to me. He dares not walk out now, for fear of being nabbed by the authorities. His friends have slowly disappeared too with no traces of them apparently. But some of our recipients could very likely be missing, as they could have found a job where accommodation was provided. At Petaling Street, we spotted Tanias boyfriend who was awfully stinky with his pants all wet. The now grey white towel hanging over his head,is good enough to chase away anyone approaching to help him. Aunty Munirah quipped,that the only way to clean him up, was to take him to a car wash and hose him down. We do our best to feed as fairly as we can. We do not feed to a largely non Malaysian crowd or those who are capable of feeding themselves. It is our sincere hope to help and make every recipients life a little better. We also had a total of 60 volunteers,with staff of Experian Marketing Services and groups of individuals helping the regulars out.We also had a guest apparance by Farouk Hashim Team Monday to help out. On the bright side, at tune hotel, we had a good moment of happiness when Friday strongman Azeem Ambalam announced his engagement to another fellow Friday volunteer, Murshi. Upon hearing the good news, the Friday regulars jumped for joy and cuddled ! We wish Azeem and Murshi all the best in their married life. Selamat Berpuasa semua to those celebrating!
