Friday, Oct. 25: Ephesians 5:15-20 New International Version (NIV) 15 Be very careful, then, how you live—not as unwise but as wise, 16 making the most of every opportunity, because the days are evil. 17 Therefore do not be foolish, but understand what the Lord’s will is. 18 Do not get drunk on wine, which leads to debauchery. Instead, be filled with the Spirit, 19 speaking to one another with psalms, hymns, and songs from the Spirit. Sing and make music from your heart to the Lord, 20 always giving thanks to God the Father for everything, in the name of our Lord Jesus Christ. Reflection: The Apostle Paul commands us to “be filled with the Spirit” (Eph. 5:18) The Greek verbal tense here is present continuous, meaning we should continually be in a state of being filled with God’s Holy Spirit. In Ephesians 4:30 we are instructed to “not grieve the Holy Spirit.” In what ways might we have grieved God’s Holy Spirit? How can we be continually filled with God’s Spirit? Who do you know that could be described as “full of the Holy Spirit?” Would you conclude this week of study by inviting God to fill you now with His Holy Spirit?
