Friday Update: Hello to everyone! It was an 800 diaper week. Thank you to everyone who donated this week! We gave out 4 cans of formula, crib set, blankets, lots of baby food, cereal, clothing and swimsuits, shoes, and toys and books! It was so great to have Mrs. Nancy Heath Huisinga sort and organize all morning! She really tamed the chaos and it was a huge help. Thank you! *Current needs: We are totally out of wipes. Our baby food is also getting very low- especially fruits (babies love the fruits). Diapers- extra low on size 1 , 3, 6 We have a little girl in need of size 8 shoes. Special request: I have a young mom of two who recently moved here on her own, with a back injury who purchased a used changing table and was sad when she got it home to find it was missing the supports so it is unusable. I know we have some handy friends on this page and she (and her sore back) would be thrilled is someone could help her make the table usable. She is located here in Monticello. If you are a handy man or woman and can help. please let me know. Thank you! Neat moment today: We have a family we have assisted several times over last winter and each time the mom came in, she would say. When we get back on our feet, I am going to pay this all back. It was a sweet idea, but of course, we dont expect repayment. Well, today, in they came, 2 little boys proudly carrying several bags of diapers, lots of baby equipment and clothes. They had purchased one bag of every size diaper! They were very proud and so happy to give them to us. She said, I told you I was going to pay you guys back! Yes, you did. Thank you so much! A big thank you and much appreciation to Ronda Carrie Matthews Buchanan, Angie L Pruitt McCabe, and Charlene Wolter-Harris for doing an amazing job coordinating our back to school supply and backpack drive to benefit Piatt County children. These ladies have worked their tails off calling, driving, talking and organizing and donations are really coming in. The communities are coming together and we expect to be able to help at least 100 children with all the supplies they need to go back to school. If you are interested in helping, please see the group page or reach out to these ladies for more information. We are accepting applications now through July 28 and spaces are starting to really fill up. Roof project: Donations are starting to come in for the roof project. Thank you! We hope to get Mr. Morrison the money for the cost of materials next week. We have about half of the materials cost. We are not sure what the cost of labor will be. Monetary donations to A Small Hand may be mailed to: A Small Hand 1115 North State Street Room 124 Monticello, Illinois 61856 Please be sure to indicate on the memo line whether you want your donation to be directed towards diapers and baby supplies, school supply drive or the roof project. Thanks so much. I will be in tomorrow from 9-1. Please feel free to stop in to visit or discuss the baby pantry and/or current projects.
