Friday night Nancy and I went to hear a speaker at the South - TopicsExpress

Friday night Nancy and I went to hear a speaker at the South Danbury church. The topic was on the history and making of stone walls and other structures in New England. Totally fascinating ! Nancy didnt have any interest in going but was glad that she did. We had no idea that there are over 250,000 miles of stone wall in New England and NY, more than anywhere else in the world. Enough to go around the globe 10 times. And they were mostly made between 1780 to 1840, a very short time period. This time period was when sheep were being raised in large quantities and the walls had to be 6 feet tall in order to keep them in because they werent able to see over the fence due to the grass is greener on the other side. Also, stone wells were made from the outside, which made sense upon learning how. Incredible lecture.
