Friday, past, my High School Classmate and fellow Vietnam Veteran, - TopicsExpress

Friday, past, my High School Classmate and fellow Vietnam Veteran, Allan Carroll and his wife Nancy came to the General Patton Memorial Museum to say hello and to see the five Imperial High School Tiles that to date honor 106 IHS Veterans who answered the call to duty during the Vietnam Era. The following day our High School Class of 1964 enjoyed our 50th Anniversary. While Allen was at the General Patton Memorial Museum he told me about the day he wounded in action. Allen was in a 2 1/2 ton truck that made up a convoy, the driver of the truck was shot and killed. Allen grabbed his M-60 machine, drove under the truck and begin firing back at the Vietcong. As Allen fought for his life and to save the lives of his fellow soldiers enemy fire put several bullet holes in the trucks fuel tank, diesel fuel pour out and Allen was soaked in it. A Vietcong RPG rocket struck the Fuel Tanker truck two vehicles ahead of Allans vehicle, the fire from the exploding tanker truck ignited the diesel fuel Allen was soaked in, he was burnt but did not stop fighting. He was awarded a Purple Heart Medal for being wounded in action and the Bronze Star Medal with V device for valor. Allen made me promise not to put him on the spot at our Class Reunion and out of love and respect for this hero I agreed. Allan I understand your pain, caused by an ungrateful Nation that treated her own so badly as we came home from that unpopular war. You should have let me tell OUR CLASS MATES about what you suffered then and the pain that may never be healed, for they, like me, respect you, honor you and love you, as we do for all those from our little High School who did their duty. Now your friends and mine know that you are one of the unsung heros. Welcome Home my Brother. Everyone who reads this please re-post it, and by so doing let Allan know he will never be forgot and that his suffering can be healed by him forgiving our country and by accepting OUR Love and Respect!
