Friday thoughts: Theres an old cooking pot here at home thats used for composting. I opened it for the first time this morning, and I saw silvery webs atop grayish matter. It looked to me like there was a fascinating world inside the pot. And the smell - it was not as bad as good thats been stocked in old ice cream tubs in preparation for being transferred to the pot. In fact, the smell seemed to be like buro (fermented rice thats usually eaten with mustasa leaves). All that I saw used to be cut-up pieces of food and shredded dried leaves. There was little sight of those original materials. What was in the pot was, in my estimation, entirely new. It was a magical experience! For a while, I thought of the word alchemy. Though I am not familiar with the specifics of alchemic processes, I did think of how pieces of waste were transformed into something thats quite a sight, one that will be a contribution to the nourishment of plants. Its another day to be grateful for the grace in the world that makes transformations possible.
