Friday was the announcement by Health Canada that patients who have been licensed to grow cannabis , some for 13 years, will now have their names and addresses released to the RCMP by April 10. He and his team have been operating the BC Kind Compassion club- with Kelowna council’s blessings and RCMP meetings - since about 2009. They provided compassionate service and provided the patients for Dr. Zack Walsh’s (UBC Okanagan) study on Arthritis and Cannabis this year. Also,while I was in Grand Forks speaking up for patient rights while elected to city council (2008-2011), he stood by me and tried to help when my work was being sabotaged. He knew that should the province stand up with a provincial model of a medical cannabis program that organized crime would not be happy. We both understood that only through provincial regulation could patients be removed from the abuse and violence caused by bad federal government programming and complete disrespect for patients’ rights. Only then would the disconnect between criminals and patients be bridged and the unjust stigmatism of the cannabis plant be removed. Dispensary staff members provide education and medical protocol on cannabis that patients and doctors do not get anywhere else. These are very scary times for the sick in Canada as all our charter rights are being ripped away.
