Friend -- Finally, some good news in the fight for unemployment insurance. The Senate voted today on a bipartisan plan that would restore this important safety net for more than 2 million job-seeking Americans. This has been a long, hard-fought battle and OFA supporters like you have been critical to keeping the pressure on Congress to act -- making calls, holding the senators who stood in the way accountable, and not letting anyone forget that families across the country depend on this. Today, we cleared a huge hurdle with bipartisan momentum -- but we have an uphill battle in the House, and Speaker Boehner has shown no signs of doing anything to help these unemployed Americans. Even Republican Senator Dean Heller expressed his disappointment in the Speaker at his reluctance to pass unemployment benefits. Lets make sure the Speaker hears from us. Head on over to Speaker Boehners Facebook wall right now and leave a message in a place we know he wont miss it -- tell him to pass the bipartisan bill to restore unemployment benefits. Keep in mind that the Senate tried and failed to pass this -- twice. OFA supporters in Illinois and Ohio rallied to make sure that Senators Mark Kirk and Rob Portman felt their disappointment when they voted to leave their constituents out in the cold. Im proud to say that both senators came to the table and helped craft the bipartisan bill that passed today. Emergency unemployment benefits are a critical safety net for millions of job seekers as they work to get back on their feet. Todays Senate vote was a big step in the right direction, but were not done yet. Leave a message on Speaker Boehners Facebooks wall, and tell the House to follow the Senates lead and pass unemployment insurance now: my.barackobama/Boehner-Renew-Unemployment-Insurance Thanks, Nico Nico Probst Director of Special Projects Organizing for Action PAID FOR BY ORGANIZING FOR ACTION Contributions or gifts to Organizing for Action are not tax deductible.
