Friend and author Nancy Roe Pimm is in the process of completing a biography for children about the first woman to fly solo around the world, Columbus Ohios own Jerrie Mock. Jerrie worked closely with Nancy this summer, but sadly, Jerrie passed away about two weeks ago. Nancy recently set out to locate Jerries Cessna 180, called Three Eight Charlie and also nicknamed The Spirit of Columbus. She found it displayed in a remote spot at the Smithsonians annex, the Udvar-Hazy Center, not in the National Boeing Milestones Hall of Flight on the National Mall. To honor Jerries memory, Nancy is asking us to please leave a comment at the National Air and Space Musuem via the link below. You can add your own comments or paste Nancys statement: The Spirit of Columbus, also known as Three-Eight Charlie, the Cessna 180 that Jerrie Mock, a 38 year-old housewife flew solo around the world in 1964 deserves its place in history at the Boeing Milestones of Flight Hall. Three-Eight Charlie is currently at the Udvar-Hazy Center in a very remote location. We think this amazing little plane should have a place of honor at your museum in the Milestones of Flight Hall alongside the plane flown by the first man to fly solo around the world.
