Friends: Contrary to the rumor mill at city hall I do not - TopicsExpress

Friends: Contrary to the rumor mill at city hall I do not oppose those of sincere beliefs. I merely oppose the use of religion as a malicious political weapon or tool for those who seek political office. I am not a candidate for anything, so there is no reason for me to lie. I received this letter below from a clergyman. He seems to be sincere. I do not know the guy. I am reprinting the letter with permission but am withholding his name because the gentleman does not like to be involved in politics but would rather stick with religious issues. I really do not know what to make of this as religion is not my forte. Comments are welcome. ------------------- Dear Stephanie I hear that you are displeased with the mayor of your city for making such a big show out of prayer. I know you secular people do not want to hear this, but the bible also speaks very strongly against making a big show out of prayer. You as a secular person may not like this, but in my opinion you are doing the work of my god every time you speak out against hypocrisy. Please leave my name out of this, because as a minister of the gospel , I try to stick to spiritual matters rather than worldly politics. I suggest that you share these scriptures with the mayor if it is not against your secular principles. I include quotes from the New American Standard Bible because the KJV is not well understood by many people. Name of Clergyman Withheld Matthew 6:1 “Beware of practicing your righteousness before men to be noticed by them; otherwise you have no reward with your Father who is in heaven. Matthew 6:2 “So when you give to the poor, do not sound a trumpet before you, as the hypocrites do in the synagogues and in the streets, so that they may be honored by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. Matthew 6:3 “But when you give to the poor, do not let your left hand know what your right hand is doing, Matthew 6:4 so that your giving will be in secret; and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. Matthew 6:5 “When you pray, you are not to be like the hypocrites; for they love to stand and pray in the synagogues and on the street corners so that they may be seen by men. Truly I say to you, they have their reward in full. Matthew 6:6 “But you, when you pray, go into your inner room, close your door and pray to your Father who is in secret, and your Father who sees what is done in secret will reward you. 7 “And when you are praying, do not use meaningless repetition as the Gentiles do, for they suppose that they will be heard for their many words. 8 “So do not be like them; for your Father knows what you need before you ask Him.
