Friends, I am not one to normally clog up your news feed with brazen charitable posts and long-winded ways of pleading for money. Therefore, I beg you to forgive me a little hypocrisy. In April l will travel to the Philippines with VSO on a 3 month volunteering programme. Most of my work will be to do with environmental education on the island of Bohol, teaching communities about ecological sustainability - a global issue I believe to be a truly important concern. Bohols environmental vulnerability suffered a setback in 2013 when it was struck by a 7.2Mw earthquake followed 2 weeks later by typhoon Haiyan. As part of my commitment to this programme I have to raise £800 for VSO which will go towards securing volunteer placements for the charity for years to come. I am doing the usual stuff, a cake sale here, a cake sale there, you get the picture. However, in a moment of madness I decided to cycle 700 miles in 7 days around the UK on a route that spells out giant versions of the letters VSO. It is in this regard that I reach out to you to help me achieve my fundraising target. If even a few of you could sponsor me a penny a mile that would be more than enough!
