Friends, I recently got involved with The Borgen Project - TopicsExpress

Friends, I recently got involved with The Borgen Project (borgenproject.org) which is an non-profit organization aiming at addressing global poverty and hunger and working towards ending them Why you should keep reading: Before you choose whether to continue reading, let me assure you that I have done my homework and, if nothing else, you will learn something new. Also, over the course of my work with The Borgen Project, I will prove to most of you why helping reduce and ultimately end global poverty and hunger is in yours and your family’s best interest. For many, it is an act of human kindness, but for many more it should be looked at as a very strategic long-term investment in our own country’s security and economy. Why am I getting involved in The Borgen Project? Time is the most important resource we all have. As most of you know, I don’t have much spare time and I choose judiciously how I spend whatever little time I have left – with my family. I have done a lot of reading on the subjects of global poverty, the US foreign aid and the rest of the world’s efforts to end poverty before deciding to volunteer with The Borgen Project. What really piqued my interest, to the point of getting involved were: 1. How far we have gone in 20 years in reducing global poverty (proving it to me that we can actually end it entirely) and 2. How much reducing global poverty impacts my/our everyday life. So I decided spending a little bit of my time advocating would be a great investment of my time. What is Borgen Project and how exactly Borgen Project plans to end global poverty and hunger? Unlike many other non-profit organizations that do much to help this cause, The Borgen Project is going after the single wealthiest and most powerful entity in the world that can actually make the difference in ending global poverty and hunger. Yes, I am talking about the US Congress. Whether we like it or not, the US Congress appropriates and controls approximately $3 trillion dollars. The idea is very simple. The Borgen Project believes that by putting pressure on the US Congress we could enact legislature that will solve global poverty and hunger as we know. Overwhelmingly, the research shows that the congressional representative are much more likely to vote on a piece of legislature when they repeatedly hear from their constituents. In my next posts, I will share factual data that should convince you that this causes is worth few minutes of your time, the time to make a call to your elected official. Thank you for reading and stay tuned, Greg
