Friends and Family: We have the final interpretation of the scans. The mediastinal mass has grown about 25% larger than its size in April. There is a tumor thrombus (clot) in my SVC, which is a major vein leading into the heart. There is a tumor thrombus in a vein on my right lung, there are two spots in my spinal bone marrow along with a spot in the bone marrow at the top of my humerus bone. There is also a questionable spot in the muscle stretching from my hip bone to my knee that the doctors are reading as inconclusive. At this point, the plan is to start what’s called Salvage Chemotherapy, which is a fancy term for chemo given to a patient with a recurring tumor. There is no big protocol like my last treatment, so it’s a very individualistic approach to the disease. I will go through two rounds of chemo, which will last from six to eight weeks, and we will reassess. They are debating whether or not they can put a port in again, since the vein they need to use has the tumor thrombus (blood clot with tumor cells) in it. I could have a Picc line put in, but it also has to go through the SVC, so there’s no final decision about that yet. I will be starting chemo next week, and like last time I will be losing my hair. This is the third time I have been through hair loss, but I’m ready for it this time. If I’m going to lose it, it’s going to look good! Thank you all for your prayers and support, it has meant the world to us. Please continue to pray for me and my family as we go through an even tougher battle than we did two years ago.
