Friends and family. I have had the privilege of working with some amazing talent from our city over the years. Many bands I have worked with for SXSW are on this list. Some bands are not though they are well deserving. In my humble opinion anyone who steps out in faith to share their music and their heart through song is to be applauded. Putting yourself out there in any capacity is sometimes a very difficult thing to do. You dont know if you will receive praise or criticism. MOST of the time you will get CRITICISM. From your friends, family, co workers, and those you love most. Its difficult to pursue a dream. ANY DREAM. Thats why I love musicians. They wear their hearts on their sleeves whether they want to or not. They share a song or a tune and leave themselves open to anyone who will listen. And the harsh reality is until they develop a fan-base and their sound it can take many years to get past the critics. I have been in this game a LONG TIME and thanks be to God I have had the privilege to continue pursuing my passion for music and touring long enough that even some critics moved on to other things.... AND in some cases my critics, over the years, had a turn and have become some of my biggest fans and closest friends. That being said Dare to Dream. Dont stop what ever your dream is. The DREAM for most musicians, contrary to popular belief, isnt for riches or fame. Its to share something they created with the world in hopes it connects with someone. Inspires, touches, encourages, and even changes someones life in some way. I have heard it said that Greatness is in you! Well it is. As my father-in-law George Ramirez always would say: The greatest songs are yet to be written, the greatest sermons are yet to be preached the greatest books are yet to be written! Pursue the Dream. Trust God and be patient. On that note I want to thank Giannino Salvatore, Sonny Rush and the staff at The Falls for putting together these awards. Many do not know, but they have been doing this for 8 years and it is def something to get excited about. I have seen them work hard to cultivate and build the music scene here in San Antonio. They have done their best to include everyone on this ballot. These award ceremonies are very well organized. I hope you all take the time to cast your vote. If your favorite bands are not on here then prepare to nominate them for next year. These awards are open to any talent from our great city and they have even expanded it opening it up to over 24 categories.
