Friends, family, and co-workers: I beg of you. Please take a moment to read this. I am disturbed with the continuing onslaught of political attacks coming from many. My plea is simple and meek and I refuse to personally attack anyone. As an American, it is your right to freedom of speech. However, your speech and opinion is simply that: your own. I need you to know, I respect your opinion be you registered to whatever party. I dont care if your opinion or view is backed by cold hard facts or if its how you strongly feel. You are still entitled to that opinion and view. This applies to both local and federal politics. So wheres the problem? How we conduct ourselves. The worst part? We are teaching those who are coming of voting age that its ok to verbally badger and speak ill of those who do not share the same views. We are teaching the younger generations that bullying is acceptable. Everyone hates the campaigning a politician does, especially the outrageous negative attacks. There is no tact in doing that. There is no respect in doing that. So please leave the campaigning to the politicians; theres enough hate in the world. The political process goes as follows: as an American civilian it is our civic duty to make informed decisions when election time rolls around (be it federal or local). You actively seek out the facts, you actively look at the parties and what they stand for, you actively ask yourself what you support, you quietly register to corresponding party (if you do not know, register as an independent), when the time comes you vote appropriately based on the above steps. If you have done all of that and still dont know what to do, first continue your research and if its still murky you can omit your vote and choose not to vote at all. You dont have to talk about anything you dont want to. What am I asking? I am asking that if you are a Democrat and voted democratically and you are upset with who got office, I am sorry. Your voice was heard but please understand, theres always next election. If you are a Republican and voted as such, your voice was heard and remember to be humble. I am asking that we stop posting negative nasty messages. If you must post something political, be sure its factual and isnt littered with us vs them information. I am asking that we be respectful, can you dig?
