Friends, family, and people of BC: Tomorrow all 750 people of the Huu-ay-aht First Nation (HFN) vote. They vote on what would be the first stage of an agenda being played out behind the scenes by the Christy Clark government that would affect ALL British Columbians. The agenda is to build a MASSIVE 1300km pipeline, larger and more costly than the proposed Enbridge Northern Gateway diluted bitumen pipeline - but nobody is talking about it. There is virtually zero mainstream media coverage about this. They vote to allow a fly-by-night corporation named Steelhead LNG, propped up by wealthy financiers earlier this year from Alberta (Kern Partners - kernpartners/The-Kern-Team/index.php ), to lease 300 hectares of traditional Huu-ay-aht territory at Sarita Bay, Barkley Sound to build a US$30 Billion Dollar Liquefaction plant in the heart of traditional HFN territory. Yes you read that correctly, US$30 BILLION - right in the heart of territory that is rebounding from years of logging, where salmon populations are finally returning thanks to work done by wonderful hardworking HFN stewards. 300 of their 8200 hectares of territory would be ceded to a private company that is accountable to nobody and whose sole interest is to generate revenue for shareholders from Kern Partners. Steelhead LNG has influenced the pockets and minds of corrupt HFN leadership, who are rushing to pass the vote tomorrow without proper dialogue and discussion with their people. They are targeting youth, and doing call-outs, creating a wedge between adolescents and their parents and elders, trying to get them to vote yes by promising them education in LNG operations, construction, and other filthy jobs in the Fracking energy sector. This all goes directly against the traditional Huu-ay-aht First Nation principles; the principles of iisaak (respect), uu-a-thluk (taking care of), and hishuk tsa’wak (everything is connected). The proposed lease of this traditional land and subsequent construction is only the beginning of Christy Clarks plan to expand our energy sector into the international market, a market where fossil fuel prices are plummeting, where the world is moving to clean energy, away from crude oil and natural gas, fracking, and all of their associated maladies. This is occurring against the backdrop of an increasingly changing global climate, primarily driven by the burning of fossil fuels, which threatens the planets ability to sustain life. Step 1 of Christys plan is to hoodwink as many coastal first nations people into building these massive liquefaction plants, as soon as possible without any media attention. engage.gov.bc.ca/lnginbc/lng-projects/ Step 2 of Christys plan is to use these massively expensive liquefaction facilities to posture up politically, and justify the taxpayer-subsidized construction of MASSIVE (1300km) pipelines in our interior and bring them to our coast for international export. Even if economics is the primary motivator, taxpayers get all of the risk, and none of the revenue. Please share this message. I hope someone in the media is able to put the spotlight on this issue and bring much needed awareness to the people of British Columbia. The vote must go to a no tomorrow, or the domino effect of coastal first nation communities will help set up the construction of thousands of kilometers of unwanted pipelines and bring an order of magnitude more tankers to our precious coast. Thank you.
