Frog: The Story of a Homeless Survivor Written by Alexander Frog Duff If I were forced to tell the truth about how I feel at this moment I would have to say that I feel blessed. I feel blessed and highly favored. Rachel, my truest homie asked me to share my story, a very dismal story filled to the brim with pain, tears, and one hell of an agonizing addiction, an addiction that beats on my back like a full-grown gorilla. A burden I shall bare until the day that I die. The trick to living with an addiction is not to submit to your negative urges for you know they will cause you more unneeded pain. It is a constant battle. No, I am not going to give you the run-of-the-mill story of a hopeless homeless man, no sir. I am going to share with you the story of a challenged man, 43 years young, a dreamer, yet a realist full of hope. At the age of 15 years old, I joined a street gang (Black Gangster) and stayed loyal into my late 30’s. In those years of criminal activity, I made money. At one point of my life I was worth $137,000. I had a nice home, a nice car, and an unhealthy addiction that I fed constantly. My addiction was cocaine, the devil’s daughter that clouded my mind. I made mistakes. I slipped up and what came next was no surprise. I went to prison for 12 years. I was released and returned to absolutely nothing. This begins the saga of the Frog. FROG means, “Fully Relying on God”. Let me tell you, if it wasn’t for his grace, his love, his salvation, his wonderful salvation, I would not be here writing this story. Lets see, where were we…Oh yeah…I got out of the pen and had nothing except a longing to return to my first love, dope, and this I did with such a passion. I slept in a urine drenched alley because it was behind a dope dealers house in South Dallas, Texas. On November 23, 2009, I went to the Dallas International Street Church for their annual Thanksgiving dinner and saw an old friend, Pastor Karen Dudley. After a few minutes of conversation she remembered who I was and said Alexander Son, aren’t you tired? And do you know what?? I really was tired. I knew that a change is going to come and it did. The next day I waited three hours for Pastor Karen to arrive and when she did she instructed her director of the Men’s Ministry and Rehab to allow me to participate in the program. He objected strongly. She said “no”, this man will be in the program. They made room for me. In the Ministry, I grew spiritually, mentally and artistically but another wonderful thing happened. I met Lauren…….. Please Like and Share Frogs Story to hear more about this amazing homeless survivor.
