From 1936 to 1950, G.M., Firestone Tire, Standard Oil of Calif., - TopicsExpress

From 1936 to 1950, G.M., Firestone Tire, Standard Oil of Calif., Phillips Petroleum, Mack Trucks, & the Federal Engineering Corp. bought over 100 electric surface-traction systems in 45 cities across the U.S. (L.A., New York City, etc.) They bought the line systems used for electric cars like the Red Car in L.A. dismantled them & started public bus operations. They were convicted of Conspiracy to Monopolize Interstate Commerce but nothing else. The court imposed a sanction of $5,000 on G.M. and $1.00 on H.C. Grossman, the treasurer of G.M. Result: the suburbanization of America, dependence on the automobile, and a significant contributing factor in Global Warming. Nope, no Corporate Cockroach Conspiracy here!
