From 40 Day Challenge to Take every thought captive with Jeffrey Paul Day 17 “Take every thought captive.” “If you are the Son of God,” were the words and thoughts that the devil tempted Jesus with to try and conform Him into doubting who God had said He was. [Mathew 3:7, 4:3&6, Romans 12:1-2] Who are you? Who do people say you are? Who does your family say you are? Who do the headlines of your life say you are? Jesus asked these questions about Himself to Peter, not to learn or identify with who they said He was because He knew who He was! He lived out each day who He was in all He did and said. He asked these questions of Peter to reveal to him a deeper understanding of the Christ in Him and who Peter would become when the Holy Spirit came to live in him. [Matthew 16:13-19, John 14:20, 26-27] My dear friend Angelo, a man since the day he asked God into his life has known and believed who he was in Christ. No longer who he was before, or who others said he was or even who the headlines written about being a “very successful self-made man.” He was fully “sold out” as he puts it to believe who God said he was and could do what God’s Word said he could do. He lives and teaches that lesson every day of his life. [Philippians 4:13] Again I ask you Who are you? Or better yet who do you think you are? These question generally can be answered from one of two sources within you. One would answer from the “ego” who answers with over confidence of believing what the headlines of your life say about your successes or the other from a “low self-esteem” saying; “I am nothing and no body important.” Or the right answer which is; “I am who God says I am.” “I am loved by God and He is well pleased with me.” “I can do all things through His love and strength that lives in me.” Like my dear friend Angelo and others you need to be fully sold out and believe who God says you are and that you can do what God’s Word says you can do. That is “Taking every thought captive and making it God’s thoughts.” [Isaiah 55:8-11] Today’s lesson and fast – Add these Word of God’s to your personal list of affirmations and you know the exercise by now – Read them, Think them, Speak them out loud and Believe them! • “I am who God says I am.” • “I am loved by God and He is well pleased with me.” • “I can do all things through His love and strength that lives in me.”
