From Abbot Lazar: Without doubt the biggest moral issue of our epoch is the ecological collapse. The destruction of the biosphere, the earth’s life support system is being brought about largely by sheer avarice, unbridled greed and self-centredness. It is astonishing that some the most hyper-moralistic people deny that the greatest of all our moral issues even exists. Too many Fundamentalists exhaust a great deal of energy over matters of far lesser importance and give no time at all to the moral issue that affects literally all of mankind, not only in this era, but in every generation to come. As important as it is to be Pro-life, is hardly means much if we silently watch as the world those newborns will inherit cannot support that life. While we squabble over other, sometimes petty, moral issues (and sometimes ones of significance), none of our moral pronouncements can possibly ring true if we neglect the only one that impacts in a destructive manner on all of humanity, and on all generations yet to come. We really do need to focus our moral priorities in a more meaningful and circumspect manner. (Vladika Lazar)
