From Ann Richards brash one-liners as governor, to Charlie Wilsons playboy foreign policy under Ronald Reagan; from John Nance Garners canny Vice Presidency under Franklin Roosevelt, to Ralph Yarboroughs behind-the-scenes authorship of Great Society legislation; and from Lloyd Bentsens debate takedown of Dan Quayle, to Lyndon Baines Johnsons seminal civil rights legislative victories—Texas Democrats are certainly a legendary bunch. I thus expect that a Matthew McConaughey for Texas Agricultural Commissioner campaign would be, at the very least, legendarily entertaining. Its a concept so crazy, it just might work— Electoral politics in Texas needs more heroes, said McConaughey. The established political parties and career politicians arent providing them. My hero is me, in seven months, when the people of Texas choose me to represent the states most crucial interests: our farmers, and our agricultural economy.
