From Better Planning Network: This is a numbers game. Let the pollies know they have to throw out the Planning Bills on Tues. 26 November or you will live with the consequences whether it be high rise, csg extraction, open cut mines etc. IT IS UP TO EVERYONE TO DO THIS! SEE BELOW: PLANNING BILLS UPPER HOUSE DEBATE NEXT TUESDAY 1. Go to the BPN Website Home page; see link below; send your personal message to throw out the planning bills stating why; hit SEND and your message goes to every member of the Upper House. 2. See the list below of email addresses of the Labor Shadow cabinet; send your personal message to throw out the planning bills stating why. Suggested reasons: taking power away from councils and residents; approval to interfere with aquifers and water resources; spot rezoning facility for developers; urban growth areas denying people their amenity and the right to comment rendering them powerless; all power given to the Planning Minister and Director-General of Planning to override Local Plans, Councils etc; emphasis on economic growth at the expense of environmental protection; tokenistic community engagement; further erode protection of the coast, heritage and native vegetation; Aboriginal heritage is not (explicitly) addressed in the Planning Bill; more complicated system than the current planning legislation; removing the right of the community to appeal decisions; lack of transparency in the decision making processes I AM SURE YOU CAN NOMINATE ANY OF THESE OR OTHER REASONS TO THROW OUT THESE PLANNING BILLS Planning Bills Upper House Debate next Tuesday The Upper House debate on the NSW Planning Bills is scheduled to commence next Tuesday 26 November in the NSW Upper House (exact time unknown at this stage but we will email again as soon as we hear). Ø If you are in a position to go into Parliament to watch the debate in person on Tuesday, Wednesday or Thursday, it’s important you do so. Dress code: black and yellow (or just black if you don’t have any yellow). Note that protest signs will not be allowed in the gallery but you may be able to ‘wear’ a HaZZard Tape sash - we’re not sure. Maybe give it a try but be prepared to take it off if you asked to. It’s vital to keep the pressure on until Thursday 28 November This is incredibly important. This year, the Upper House stops sitting on Thursday 28 November and our job is to keep the pressure on until then so that we can get the best outcome possible in terms of the NSW Planning BIlls. So please: Ø If you have not yet emailed Upper House MPs, please do so ASAP from our website: betterplanningnetwork.good.do Ø If you have not called the list of Labor MPs we gave out previously (see below), please call them ASAP, starting with the top names and working your way down (for tips of what to say, go to betterplanningnetwork.good.do ) Ø Ask your group members, family and friends to do the same and please SHARE on Facebook/Twitter!
