[VIDEO] This screech owl was brought to us by the Pickering Animal Services on November 5, 2014. He was found trapped in a canopy for approximately 5 days. Weak, unable to fly, and dehydrated, Dr. Sawyer performed a thorough physical examination upon his arrival, in which no obvious trauma was found. Given the limited history and the birds inability to fly, a radiograph was then taken to ensure that the owl had no fractures and did not have any internal injuries. There were no abnormalities present, and the owl was given fluids subcutaneously for hydration, and stayed with us for much needed rest and recuperation. Initially, the owl did not readily eat so we had to tube-feed him, which later progressed to hand-feeding. After only a few days, the owl began eating on his own and regained its ability to fly. The screech owl was successfully released back into the wild on November 14, 2014. :) (Music used with permission from stockmusicboutique)
