From CBST member RoseAnn Rosenfeld Hermann: Tonight was a perfect culmination of what is special about CBST: we have come to rely on our beautiful, musically and spiritually meaningful services, but hopefully we never take them for granted. They offer all who attend communal and spiritual nourishment, members and guests alike. Tonights service also provided special comfort to a family mourning the recent loss of a beloved partner and family member, as well as a beloved member of CBST. There were many people there tonight specifically for that, and I am certain they felt our virtual hug, as Rabbi Kleinbaum put it. We observed MLK Day with a hard look at the crimes against the LGBT community in Russia, thanks to our guest speaker, Masha Gessen, a journalist, author and out LGBT Russian activist. Our president, Bill Hibsher, made a smart and profound comparison of the danger and humiliation facing the LGBT Russian community and what LGBT individuals faced here in the US over the last few decades. It is not unlike the present day situation in Russia. He reiterated that CBST is on the front line with this issue, doing a variety of things to help. Kiddish was sponsored to commemorate many significant dates, and one particular member getting her green card. The twins who will be celebrating their bnei mitzvot in 2 weeks held the challahs when the the motzi was said. And everything else, you know, the usual. Thank you one and all who participated and made it happen.
