From Chaplain Nigel Loncke: This is the email I sent the NYS Governor Re:the Rockaway ferry. Please use the link, do the same & share this. It only takes 2 minutes. Governor Cuomo I ask that you intercede on behalf of the people of Rockaway & Brooklyn with respect to a ferry service to and from the Rockaways. As you know, Rockaway is still trying to rebuild since Hurricane Sandy and a ferry is instrumental to our rebuilding. It is also a vital waterway source to help alleviate rush hour traffic. Also a stop can be added to JFK Airport. Mayor DeBlasio extended the Seastreak ferry until the end of October of this year but did not include an extension in his budget. I ask that you help the people of Rockaway in keeping a ferry. Give us a year to prove that ridership will increase especially if we have a ferry 7 days a week, plus late morning/early afternoon hours which are not included in the schedule now. The cost of operating the ferry will decrease dramatically & the ridership will go up. People use the ferry to go and come home from work. If we had an extended ferry, people could use the ferry on the weekend or nights to go shopping, dining, shows, etc. in Manhattan and endless other reasons as these things are non-existing or limited in Rockaway. Also people/tourists from the city would use the ferry to come to Rockaway. All I ask is that you give us a chance to prove that the people of Rockaway need and should have a ferry. This is a win/win for the City of New York. I await your response. governor.ny.gov/contact/GovernorContactForm.php
