From Chappy Ferry: Film footage of the 1906 Hudson River ferry HACKENSACK, which sailed as the Vineyard Sound ferry ISLANDER from 1949 to 1949. Shes been all but forgotten on Marthas Vineyard (until now) but she introduced the basic type of ferry service the Islands know today. In this film clip, we see the ISLANDER loading up at Woods Hole (note the railroad cars resting where the cars line up today!), steaming across Vineyard Sound, and landing and unloading at Vineyard Haven. Though you and your many friends would like to see it.
