From Danny: As I ponder my current struggle with cancer, two passages of scripture enter my mind. The first is recorded in Daniel 3:17-18. As the Hebrew children were faced with being burned to death in the fiery furnace, they stated, “If it be so, our God whom we serve is able to deliver us from the burning fiery furnace, and He will deliver us out of thine hand, O King. But if not, be it known unto thee, O King, that we will not serve thy gods, nor worship the golden image which thou hast set up.” I apply this to my situation because I know He can deliver me from this affliction of cancer, but if He chooses not to heal me, I know that He will be with me through what I must face. The second passage is from John 6:66-69. After Jesus told His followers that they must eat His flesh and drink His blood, many of his disciples turned away from Him. When Jesus asked the twelve, Will you also go away?, “Simon Peter answered Him, ‘Lord, to whom shall we go? Thou hast the words of eternal life.’” My doctors have told me they cannot cure me of the cancer I have; they can only treat me in hopes of extending my life for an unknown period of time. However, Jesus can heal me, but if He chooses not to bring physical healing to me, He offers me a greater benefit of eternal life. I believe the Lord can intervene at any time in our lives and change our circumstances, but I also believe that in most cases God chooses to help us through our struggles in this life rather than change our physical outcomes. I am still praying for God’s intervention and healing. I must also accept the possibility that my physical healing may not be God’s will. Therefore, I ask for your continued prayers for my healing but also for me to accept God’s will, and that I will not become bitter, resentful and angry if He does not answer my prayers in the way I would like. We will be going to the cancer center at Ohio State on September 18 for a second consultation. We still have not heard about the clinical trial—I would also ask for your prayers for our visit.
