From Jay Hood: ++Please Share with Friends and Family++ Apparently our County Executive does not like being called out on his Lies, or shall I call them Fibs? Does that sound nicer? Let me start by saying, I like Ed Day- I like talking with him, playing golf with him, having dinner with him....No one came into the new year with a greater sense of hope because I truly thought I could work with Ed even as a republican. We worked on many things together as Legislators and I felt we became good friends in the mean time. He has lost a significant ally in me because I can no longer trust him, I cannot trust him as a man of his word. I am surprised as you to be saying that. But I am not lying and the Journal News is not lying. The fibs are public and multiple. Now it is hard to explain on Facebook my disappointment in what I have seen in the last ten months. Its not the issues only, as we have agreed on some and disagreed on others. But it is his leadership style and utter disregard for the truth. First is the bully tactics. You know how many times Ive heard you better not vote for this or Im going to make you look bad or Im going to embarrass you. That is no way to deal with other elected officials and I believe his arrogance and undiplomatic ways of governing has brought the County to this point. He will pretend to take the high road in recent posts, but in person it doesnt work that way. Its his way or the highway. Now on to the Fibs: Some were in private and some are very public now: Fib #1. Bus washing will increase your taxes 4% annually for 4 years. That is a bold faced lie to get the publics support against a measure he didnt want. Just read this article and you will understand. I will go on record in saying that if calling someone a lier is not proper leadership, then actually lying to the public is the epitome of bad leadership. Whether you wanted bus washing or not- this is not a game of say whatever you have to, (i.e. Fib) to win every issue. lohud/story/news/local/rockland/2014/10/31/rockland-brega-bus-washings/18201849/ Fib #2. The $10 Deficit reduction Act caused an 11th hour change in budget cutting ALL agencies and the Sheriffs patrol. I am going to call this a Fib because he VOTED to pass this law in 2012 and was told numerous times we had to do something with this law, either rescind it or change it. He had 10 months to do something but didnt. Alternatively, if its not a fib because of the last minute opinion from the County Attorney, then that is gross incompetency for not getting that opinion earlier. He knew the law was there and did nothing except lop off two major parts of our budget. Either a fib or incompetent, lazy budgeting. Here is another JN article calling him out. lohud/story/news/local/rockland/2014/11/01/rockland-budget-cuts/18297059/ Fib #3. I will not veto the Charter reform Law if there is no default budget in there We took it out, even though it was the most important part to me, and he still vetoed the law. Fibbed right to my face. Sub-fib #3a- Vote no and it will help get term limits. A no vote will have zero impact on term limits. AND term limits do not have to be in the Charter. Besides, term limits were taken up and failed while Ed was on the legislature. Fib #4 I will not cut the contract agencies Fib #5 I will not cut the Sheriffs patrol He ultimately did both and this hurts Haverstraw probably more than any area. We need these agencies and the patrol to help our Police. Howard Phillips has gone on record against this cut. I stand with him. The point is if you have to make cuts, stand up and say you will when asked. Do not lie, umm, fib to our faces. I believe Ed Day can be a strong and effective leader. But he needs to tell the public the truth every single time on every issue- not just when he feels like it. He also needs to repair his relationships with Legislators, including me who was a serious ally looking to work together for years to come. He has lost credibility with me and some of the public. I hope he can admit he was wrong and make things better. People know I dont speak out all that much but when I do, I mean what I say and it comes from the heart- this is from my heart.
