From Jenny: The TruBiz Model, A DIY Approach to Mentorship: What every interpreter ought to know about peer mentoring Date/Time: Live on Friday, Jan 23, 2:30-4:15pm (Eastern) Access the archived video: Jan 27-Feb 15, 2015 Description: What can aspiring interpreters do when faced with a shortage of mentors? What can mentors do when faced with more mentoring requests than they can accommodate? In 2000, a group of motivated new interpreters came up with a proactive answer to these questions. This presentation explains the peer mentoring model of their group, TruBiz, an independent study group that led eight pre-certified practitioners to certification. Panel participants will share their experiences and tips with the audience on how to set up or be an advisor for a successful peer mentoring group. Learn how the group planned skill development activities, worked with a liaison to find community support, and offered each other structured, positive accountability. The presentation will be available live at Gallaudet, as well as live online via streaming video. Audience members will have the opportunity to participate in a live Q & A, on-site or via email.
