From Jim: Rio was a beloved critter. Laura thought the world of him, loved him, and would have done anything for him. And she did. When the old boys time came, Laura said, This is about him and his not having to suffer. Its not about us. Thats what needs to be the standard of care. We dont know why Rio failed so suddenly. It was clear today that the best efforts we could bring were not going to be enough. He wouldnt have lived long enough for the treatments that were available to help. He had suffered complete kidney failure, was shocky, and acute uremic toxicity had set in. It was likely he would not have lived through the night. Better he go quietly and peacefully. He was heavily sedated after the Docs final examination. A blood panel confirmed the situation. He had all of us, that loved him and thought so much of him, there to say good bye. He was a great horse. He will be remembered for his beauty and his kind ways. Thanks to everyone that sent along prayers and good thoughts. You are all a part of Home At Last and are appreciated. Jim
