From KINY: Search on in Southeast for two people missing from landing craft that sank The Coast Guard is conducting a search in Southeast Alaska for two people who went missing from a landing craft. Chief Joshua Ryan in the District 17 Command Center says they were contacted before 11 Friday morning by a person in a boat at Cape Ommaney at the end of Baranof Island who found a person on the rocks there. He says they were apparently from a landing craft which sank at about 8 Thursday night. There were a total of three people on board with two still missing. Ryan says the Coast Guard Cutter Chandeleur is enroute to search. An aircraft from Air Station Sitka and a Canadian aircraft are also searching. Identifications are not being released at this time. Chief Ryan says the landing craft was from Sitka. The party was returning from a camping trip. Cape Ommaney is about 75 miles south of Sitka, at the southern tip of the island.
