(From Karen) Merry Christmas and Happy soon to be New Year! I hope everyone enjoyed Christmas surrounded by family and friends! It was definitely a cherished day for the Suarez Family. I feel so blessed and have so much to be grateful for this year! Hmmm that sounds exactly like our Christmas card doesnt it?! I am continuing to heal day by day. Skin is looking better but at night has become a little more itchy again. A lot of the redness from the burns is gone. Now Im praying that the scars can blend in a little more. Brayden and Sierra no longer notice Mommies owies. Thats a great sign! I just visited the ENT for what seems like the millionth time. I had my favorite scope test done (ugh) and was told the vocal chords are moving normally. As far as the raspy voice- giving it more time. The doc thought I might have had strep so he did a culture and prescribed me an antibiotic just in case it tested positive. I was very nervous about taking the medicine but the pain went away so no antibiotic was taken. Crazy how SJS changes your attitude towards medicine. It is supposed to help you but now I view it as how it will hurt me and ways to avoid it!!!! I saw the eye doctor at Loyola this week. He gave me a thumbs up on my eyes. I asked him about getting back to my contact lenses. He advised not to wear them for a while still. While my eyes look good and appear to be undamaged, my eyelids like everything else inside still needs time to heal. For now I will continue to rock the glasses and do lots of eye drops. We set up an appt in June with a doctor who will evaluate me then for contacts. My hair is growing for sure! I still wish for my longer hair back but considering all that my body went through- I can deal! I heard a story recently on the news about a 19 year old girl who is battling SJS now after taking her friends prescription- Bactrim. The same drug that burned me inside to out. I saw pictures of her in the hospital and asked Mingo if I looked that bad. I was brave enough to see 2 pictures of myself from my ICU burn unit days. I made him crop the worst parts out and I have to say that I can believe it more now when people tell me I am a walking miracle. Mingo would love for me to see more pictures of myself and what I went through but I have no desire at this time. I pray that girl and her family have strength to fight this disease and hopefully bring more awareness about it! So enough about me--- Mingo is doing well and gearing up for wrestling season soon. Brayden is doing amazing at preschool! Special shout out to his teachers at Gary D. Wright for all their hard work and efforts with our little guy! I cant believe he will turn 4 on December 30. He is very excited about his vanilla airplane birthday cake!! Sierra is doing wonderful at Primrose and we also thank and appreciate everyone there for taking such great care of her! Im amazed at what she is learning each day! In closing thank you again for your continued love, support, prayers as I continue in recovery! I came across a bunch of cards sent to me the other day while I was sick. They were reassuring to read even 9 months into recovery! 2014 will be a year I remember forever and I will have the visual scars reminding me everyday of what I went through. Im a lot stronger going into 2015 because of having and surviving SJS! Love to all! Karen, Mingo, Brayden, Sierra
