From Kent Burtner; Cults vary from one another according to a spectrum ranging from innocuous to highly destructive and according to “topic.” For example, there are cults “about” sports, self help and politics. Cults range from relatively harmless groups that believe in UFOs to very destructive cults that believe in a modified version of Christianity. The Move is a version of the later. The Move has borrowed from Christianity those doctrinal postulates that justify the intense manipulation, coercion and deception of the outside world that it practices and the extensive abuse of children that is characterized by this group. The deception practiced by The Move allows for an “inside truth” to be kept from the general public, including government officials, while a rosy picture is painted consistently of the group by its members to the outside world. The inner world is considered “holy,” “chosen by God,” and “special,” while the outside world is characterized by Move members as intensely frightening, controlled by the Devil and all his minions. There are layers of awareness within the group. Upper level administrators live a wealthy lifestyle, all in the name of God, while lower level underlings live simply, passing their hard earned income “upstairs.” This layered deception allows the criminal element within the group to carry out its agenda.
