From Lori: On Sunday, Pastor Benard asked if I would teach the ladies at the church in Wachera. Wachera is a rural remote area about 1.5 hours from Kisumu. Many of the people there are very poor. It is the village of mud huts where he was born and he is working there to bring Jesus to this community. While teaching, I said something I have said many times before: It all goes back to the Word. One woman in broken English told me that they did not have Bibles and would the women in the Bible study I lead please pray that God would provide Bibles? I was stunned. Even though I had been here before, I had not considered that they did not have even one. My American perspective had gotten in the way. She was not asking for Bibles, she was asking sincerely would we just pray. I immediately thought, Mum, God has already answered your plea. So, I would like for our Fish Camp women to buy Bibles for these women. I think its significant that if we have seen God do mighty things among us because of our devotion to the Word, it is right for us to share that with these other women. We can purchase Bibles in their native language of Luo for $10 each. If you would like to purchase a Bible, Erica has set up a link to make a contribution. We can have Bibles to them by this Sunday. I thought of all the things weve bought for Kenya: shoes, uniforms, a well, candy, soccer balls, food etc. but all of those things will fade away. A Bible is an investment that will last forever. Why was I so slow to realize that? We say at New River : Leaders go first. As I ask you to consider buying a Bible, I humbly want to share with you that I bought the first one and then Arthur bought one from each person in our family. Will you go with me? Here is the link on the New River website to buy Bibles for these ladies: nrcc.net/wachera-bibles
