From Manzoor Ahmad Nomani to Maulana Salman Nadvi Lucknow: Ever - TopicsExpress

From Manzoor Ahmad Nomani to Maulana Salman Nadvi Lucknow: Ever since Iranian revolution in 1978, the country’s Shiites movement had been at the centre of storm in Islamic world. With large Muslim population, India was also no exception. The Wahabi world was especially shaken over the success of the movement, which had then forced Maulana Manzoor Ahmad Nomani of Nadva Lucknow to write a highly anti-Shia book: Iranian revolution, Khomeini and the Shia faith. Aided and supported by Saudi Arabian government, the book was translated into several languages, including Arabic. The books forward was by the then Nadva chief Maulana Ali Miyan Nadvi. Both had run down the Shia faith. Interestingly after more than three decades, head of theology department of Nadva Maulana Salman Nadvi, kin of Ali Miyan, last week came out in strong defence of Ayatollah Khomieni. It has caused tremor in Nadva establishment. Salman Nadvi in an interview in an Urdu daily “Subahnama” not only appreciated the ideology of Ayatollah Khomieni but also announced that Saudi Arab government was a major threat to existence of Islam. Salman Nadvi further said “in the name of serving Haramain (Mecca/Media), the Saudi government has launched reign of terror all over the country and has been damaging Islam”. It is not yet clear whether Nadvi has “reformed” himself but his comment “Takfiri sect calls others Kafir and is responsible for destruction of Islamic heritage” is certainly interesting. Salfi sect has been spreading venom in Muslim society, Nadvi said, adding “Madarsas and Mosques are being destroyed on the basis of this ideology”. He has also criticized Salfi intervention in Syria and Bahrain. The cleric said Saudi monarchy should be thrown out to pave way for democracy.
