From Marie Curie Facebook status: When you hear that a fundraiser is scaling a mountain, swimming in icy lakes, pedalling for 12 hours, running marathon distances and more in memory of a colleague, you may wonder who this colleague was to inspire such feats of endurance. Paul Singleton, better known to his friends as Flipper, had served in the Royal National Lifeboat Institution for 30 years, taking to sea over 1600 times and saving the lives of over 100 people. As well as his rescue heroics he also passed on knowledge and inspired a younger generation of mariners. One of those younger mariners is Rob Inett, who has challenged himself to four day-long endurance events to raise money for Marie Curie, who supported Paul and his family while Paul had terminal cancer. Also supporting the events are some of Robs friends, including National Cyclist Neil (who himself survived testicular cancer 10 years ago this July), Neil’s wife Alexa and RNLI Lifeguard Robert Sheard. You can read more about Rob’s challenges and Pauls story on Rob’s JustGiving page: justgiving/Rob-Inett
