From: Matthew J. Bertram To: Matthew J. Bertram Sent: Sunday, December 28, 2014 9:25:19 PM Subject: MARYLAND FOOTBALL - Transcript for Head Coach Randy Edsall FOR IMMEDIATE RELEASE Contact: Matt Taylor ([email protected]) December 28, 2014 Matt Bertram ([email protected]) Head Coach Randy Edsall OAKLAND, Calif. – On the remaining schedule for the week: “Dinner at Perry’s tonight and then the cable car tour. We’ll have a 10 p.m. curfew. Tomorrow, we’ll have meetings in the morning. Myself and a couple of guys have to go to the pep rally. Everybody is at the luncheon. We’ll do a walkthrough at the hotel and we’ll bus down to Levi’s Stadium tomorrow afternoon to take a look at it and see everything there and get acclimated to what will take place on Tuesday night. On injuries: “We are good. Jalen [Brooks] is good. Really no one else. We’re in good shape. Hopefully we can stay that way here for the next two days.” On what he is looking to get accomplished during practice: “This is a normal Thursday practice. We’ll get into tune up and just for guys to be sharp mentally, for the guys just to be sharp mentally. We aren’t going to get anything done from a physical standpoint to get better. It’s just their focus, concentration and being sharp with everything we want to accomplish.” On Stanford’s defense: “It’s not complicated what they do. You got to block them up front. You got to recognize what they do. Then, what we got to do is execute the things we have in place to take advantage of what they do. They are well coordinated and play well together. What we got to do is execute at a very high level against them.” On how well did Stanford play in its final regular season game against UCLA: “They played very well. You watch the film, they played very well not only offensively, but defensively. They are playing the best they have played all season. Hopefully, the layoff will hurt them and we can do some things to hurt them. That’s what we’ll find out on Tuesday night:” On offensive lineman Jake Wheeler: “Jake’s been playing well. He’s done a good job since being in there. The whole offensive line has a tough task ahead of them on Tuesday night. They are up to the challenge, they are ready. They have played well. Now they just have to go out and execute with good technique and use good fundamentals and they’ll be ok.” On linebacker Matt Robinson: “He’s out here moving around well. Hopefully he can stay well for 60 minutes on Tuesday night. He’s anxious to play. It’s his last game in a Maryland uniform. He’s eager to play and eager to play well.” On wide receiver Stefon Diggs’ performance this week in practice: “He’s hungry and he wants to go out and play. He wants to play well, he needs to play well. He is looking forward to the opportunity. I have been pleased with how he’s come back from the injury and has played and practice very physically.” On what former Terp Isaac Goins said to the team after practice yesterday: “He just told the guys don’t take things for granted. It was good to hear. “He’s working out here and he’s trying to get a shot this year in the NFL at a tryout. He just told the guys don’t take anything for granted. Take it all in and work hard in everything you do. It was kind of a continuation of the things we told during the time he was here. So it was good for him to say that now that he’s away from the program and out here leaving and working and sending that same message.” On if any of the younger guys have stood out in practice: “A lot of guys took advantage of the practices, but one guy is Jermaine Carter. I think Jermaine has really done a good job. I think he’s got a chance to be a really good football player. He plays physically. He’s not afraid to get on people playing that middle linebacker position you need a guy like that with that kind of toughness and that kind of leadership.” On the status of running back Albert Reid: “No, he will not be ready to play. That hasn’t changed. We’ll work to get a medical [waiver] for him because of the injuries.” -Maryland- Matthew Bertram Assistant Director of Media Relations University of Maryland 301-314-8093 | [email protected] Connect with the Terps on Facebook and Twitter.
