From NLIRH: Ø We are grateful to the champions in the Senate - TopicsExpress

From NLIRH: Ø We are grateful to the champions in the Senate who introduced positive amendments and defeated negative amendments, and for their commitment to fair treatment, full integration, and healthy families and communities. Ø We are deeply concerned about the severe restrictions on access to health care and family supports in the Senate legislation, and the impact these restrictions would have on the health and well-being of our communities. Ø Under the Senate bill, aspiring citizens will be working; paying fines, fees and taxes; and paying into safety net programs for 15 years without being able to access those same programs. This is unfair and unwise. Ø This is not over. Advocates for the health of our communities will be watching the ongoing debate in the House of Representatives and in the conference committee very carefully. We urge the House to move forward with a comprehensive immigration reform bill that uplifts the opportunity of every aspiring citizen to fully contribute to and participate in our nation’s communities and economy. Please let me know if you have any comments or questions. And please feel free to share your statement with us by emailing me at [email protected] And please let NLIRH know how we can provide ongoing technical assistance! Best, Natalie D.
