From Q Center at the University of Washington! -- THIS JUST IN: Health Insurance Companies governed by the Washingtons Office of the Insurance Commissioner (OIC) can NO LONGER discriminate transgender Washingtonians! This work is the result of YEARS of activism and advocacy from a large group of dedicated individuals. I am grateful to count myself as one of many, but I want to give a specific shout out to Emerson Sekins (08, 13) who has worked tirelessly since 2006 to see that the now defunct UW Student Health Insurance Program, the City of Seattle, Washington State OIC, and soon (fingers crossed) Public Employees Benefits Board all eradicated trans* specific exclusions and developed trans* confirming policies!
