From Ray Kirkus: A letter from Commissioner Wooley, an uncontested candidate for commissioner. For the record I have been challenging commissioner Deb Panozzos self interests in working for the SWMPC for well over a year. Here it is: I believe that it is fairly obvious to all whose “quest for elected office has clouded their judgment”. The fact that this issue has been raised two weeks before a primary election by candidates running against incumbent County Commissioners and desperate for issues and press coverage should tell us all what we need to know. This issue was raised and dealt with by the County Commission at our organizational meeting in January of 2013. To show up now complaining and running to the Prosecutor is one of the most blatant examples of politics that Berrien County has seen in recent years. It brings to mind the last minute flyers that used to show up in Benton Township during the Jake Scott era. When candidates for office attempt to win votes by attacking other office holders rather than the ones they are running against, it shows just how desperate for attention they must be. It also probably shows what type of officials they would be if by some chance they would win. As for the current County Commission, we have a valid legal opinion, we have action taken by the Board over 18 months ago with no change in circumstances since then, and we have no reason to re-visit this issue except for a few politicians trying to get some press coverage before an election. Let’s “move on!” Sincerely Bob Wooley
