From Ruth Glass: Dear Stony Birders, With the nesting barricades removed, a couple of our best eagle photographers have managed to capture some amazing shots. Below are links to both Mark Scarlett’s and Joan Bonin’s latest photos. https://facebook/media/set/?set=a.10204564265087070.1073741900.1247098770&type=1&l=9fe3af9ff5 https://facebook/media/set/?set=a.10203677082639526.1073741872.1590979684&type=1&l=26c395c74a Additionally, I have had several reports of the two girls sparring in the air with each other; sort of a playful way to determine who is dominant, similar to behavior of siblings in many other species of wildlife. If the Macomb County Road Commission left the Mound gate entrance in good condition after paving, I may be tempted to take our September bird walk in this little used corner of the park; it is quite a gem. I hope to see you on the 13th. Not relevant to Stony, but very disturbing to all bird lovers, is the news coming out of California about birds bursting into flame mid-air at the BrightSource Energy solar power plant. While there have been snippets in most media reports, the attached link offers a more detailed account of what exactly is going on. csmonitor/Environment/Latest-News-Wires/2014/0818/Birds-igniting-California-solar-power-plant-scorches-birds-in-mid-air-video Keep those eagle and other bird reports coming in, and see you In the park!
