The current state of our government is such that I fear we are losing control of our country. "We The People" are being usurped by those in Congress and the White House that wish only to maintain their individual control of our great country and push it in a direction that will no longer have us be the greatest nation ever seen on the face of this planet. To quote Abraham Lincoln during his first inaugural address, March 4, 1861: "This country, with its institutions, belongs to the people who inhabit it. Whenever they shall grow weary of the existing Government, they can exercise their constitutional right of amending it or their revolutionary right to dismember or overthrow it. I cannot be ignorant of the fact that many worthy and patriotic citizens are desirous to have the National Constitution amended. While I make no make no recommendation of amendments, I fully recognize the rightful authority of the people over the whole subject, to be exercised in either of the modes prescribed in the instrument itself; and I should, under existing circumstances, favor rather than oppose a fair opportunity being afforded the people to act upon it. I will venture to add the the convention modes seems preferable, in that it allows amendments to originate with the people themselves, instead of only allowing them to take or reject propositions originated by others, not especially chosen for the purpose, and which might not be precisely such as they would wish to either accept or refuse." I would also quote Dwight D Eisenhower, who also supported an Article V convention saying: "Through their state legislatures and without regard to the federal government, the people can demand a convention to propose amendments that can and will reverse any trends they see as fatal to true representative government. If ever there has been a case of trends fatal to true representative government more prevalent than what we currently see in Washington, I am not aware of it. We are at a tipping point in our great nation. Those in control are of two groups: those who wholeheartedly support the dark direction we are headed in and those who are so concerned with keeping their position that they purposely reject their principles to maintain their position. There are a few who defy both of these groups, but are so far in the minority that it makes no difference. It therefore falls to us, the people, to tip the balance back away from the abyss that we are staring into. I urge any and all of you who see this post to google Friends Of the Article V Convention. I also urge you to pick up a great book by author Mark Levin titled The Liberty Amendments: Restoring the American Republic. I am a citizen. I consider myself a patriot. I love my country and its downward spiral saddens me tremendously. What I am not is an insurgent or troublemaker. I see the Article V Convention as a constitutional way for we the people to re-assert some sanity back into our government.
