NOTRE DAME, Ind. – Five squads listed in the top 10 of Inside Lacrosse’s Face-Off Yearbook preseason poll appear on the University of Notre Dame men’s lacrosse team’s 2015 schedule. The Fighting Irish, who are slotted at No. 2, recently unveiled their stout 11-game schedule for the upcoming campaign. The top-10 teams Notre Dame is slated to face are Denver (#1), Duke (#3), Syracuse (#4), North Carolina (#6) and Virginia (#10), while Army (#18) also appears on the Irish docket. The Fighting Irish will open the regular season Feb. 14 when they play host to their former BIG EAST Conference rival Georgetown. The Hoyas lead the all-time series 7-6, but the Irish have won the last three encounters. Notre Dame will face Michigan Feb. 21 in Ann Arbor in the first meeting between the two schools since the Wolverines gained varsity status prior to the 2012 season. Notre Dame returns home Feb. 28 to take on Dartmouth for the first time since 2009. After battling the Big Green, the Irish will hit the road for key showdowns at Denver (March 7) and Virginia (March 14) in the Atlantic Coast Conference opener. Last season, Notre Dame fell to Denver, 10-7, but bounced back with an 18-9 win over Virginia. Following that difficult road swing, the Irish return to the friendly confines of Arlotta Stadium for four of their next five games. Notre Dame will play host to Ohio State March 21 in the annual clash between the two Midwest programs. The Fighting Irish and Buckeyes have met every year since 1981 and Notre Dame has won the last 12 encounters. The Irish are back to ACC action March 28 when they welcome in Syracuse. A rematch of the 2014 national title game is scheduled for April 4 in Durham, N.C. as Notre Dame and Duke do battle once again. The Blue Devils topped the Fighting Irish, 11-9, in May’s championship game in Baltimore. The home non-conference contest versus Marquette on April 7 precedes Notre Dame’s final ACC regular-season clash against North Carolina, which is slated for April 18 at Arlotta Stadium. Notre Dame won at both Marquette, 12-7, and North Carolina, 11-10, last season. Notre Dame will try to defend its ACC Championship title when the 2015 tournament is held May 24-26 at PPL Park in Chester, Pa. The Irish topped Maryland, 6-5, and Syracuse, 15-14, to claim the 2014 crown during their first season in the league. The Fighting Irish travel to West Point, N.Y. for the first time since 2002 to face Army May 2 in the regular-season finale. Notre Dame defeated the Black Knights, 18-17, in last year’s meeting in South Bend. “It’s a great schedule,” Notre Dame head coach Kevin Corrigan says. “We think we’re going to play a number of the top teams in the country and that’s always our goal. We want to play against the best and play with the best. We’re excited about the schedule, but realize it presents an awfully big challenge as well.” The Irish, who posted a 12-6 record last season, hope to see their name in the NCAA Championship field for the 10th consecutive year when the 20-team field is announced May 3. Notre Dame and Maryland are the only two schools to qualify for the NCAA Championship in each of the last nine seasons. Notre Dame has advanced to Championship Weekend three times in the last five campaigns, including title-game appearances in 2010 and 2014. 2015 UNIVERSITY OF NOTRE DAME MEN’S LACROSSE SCHEDULE JANUARY 25 Sun.
