From Shakespeare to Jay-Z, Kanye West-. Otis ft Otis Redding. Now the great man himself that oh so many have had to study at school in the U.K has provided the English language with a huge number or words and I thought it would be nice to share some of those words with you. Now the word I’ve chosen is Swagger. Cambridge defines the word as: swagger verb [I] /ˈswæɡ.ər/ /-ɚ/ To walk or act in a way that shows that you are very confident and think that you are important: They swaggered into the room. A group of young men swaggered about outside the bar. His swaggering self-confidence irritates many people. Shakespeare used this word in both Herny the IV and in A Midsummer Night’s Dream. HENRY IV, ACT II, SCENE IV Hostess Quickly. “If he swagger, let him not come here. No, by my faith! must live among my neighbours; Ill no swaggerers. I am in name and fame with the very best. Shut the door. There comes swaggerers here; I have not livd all this while to have swaggering now. Shut the door, I pray you.” A MIDSUMMER NIGHT’S DREAM, ACT III, SCENE I Puck. “What hempen home-spuns have we swaggering here, so near the cradle of the fairy queen?” Were it not for William Shakespeare we would not have heard it used in such a way in the following song by Jay-Z, Kanye West-. Otis ft Otis Redding. The man indeed has his swagger back. Enjoy the song ;) youtu.be/BoEKWtgJQAU
