From St. Johns 2014-15 Looking Forward to the Journey - TopicsExpress

From St. Johns 2014-15 Looking Forward to the Journey Frankincense Devotional Booklet Thursday, November 6 He also told them a parable: No one tears a piece from a new garment and sews it on an old garment; otherwise the new will be torn, and the piece from the new will not match the old. And no one puts new wine into old wineskins; otherwise the new wine will burst the skins and will be spilled, and the skins will be destroyed. But new wine must be put into fresh wineskins. (Luke 5:36-38 NRSV) Jesus teaches us about the consequences of staying in our old ways and not being accepting of the new. As we grow in our relationship with Him, we are like wine that expands as it ages…we grow and become more than we were before. Jesus transforms us into the people He wants us to be so He can work through us to fulfill His purpose in our lives. As we learn to follow Him, we are changed and made new and our old self is gone. If we try to cling to our old ways instead of following where Jesus leads, nothing will seem right. We must be willing to leave our old self and old ways behind, trusting Him to lead us down new paths. By focusing on the new, instead of the old, we keep our hearts and minds open to the plans Jesus has for us instead of our own desires. Dear Heavenly Father, thank you for creating a new person in me. Help me to have an open heart and mind to hear the plans you have for me today and willing feet to eagerly follow where you lead. Keep me focused on you, Lord, so that your plans will be my plans; working as the disciple you are calling me to be. Amen. With joy and thanks, Tracy Meister
