From St. Johns 2014-15 Looking Forward to the Journey Frankincense Devotional Booklet Thursday, December 11 “Blessed is the king who comes in the name of the Lord! Peace in heaven, and glory in the highest heaven!” Some of the Pharisees in the crowd said to him, “Teacher, order your disciples to stop.” Jesus answered, “I tell you, if these were silent, the stones would shout out.” (Luke 19:38-40 NRSV) My sister-in-law’s brother once told me, “You can always retake a class. You can never relive a party.” While this might not be the best strategy to follow in an academic setting if you hope to attain a diploma in a timely manner, there is some truth to this statement. Sometimes in our lives, there are moments of excitement, joy, and enthusiasm that we simply should not miss, and cannot help but be excited about! What are some of these moments for you? Do they involve friends, family, neighbors, and fellow members of the body of Christ? If Memorial Stadium in Lincoln erupts at an amazing Husker touchdown, how much more so ought God’s creation cheer on our Savior Jesus Christ as he enters into Jerusalem to take on the corruption of the Temple and ultimately takes his throne on a shameful Roman cross, bearing away the sin of the world so that we might be made right with God by God’s doing and not our own! Having that kind of enthusiasm is an enthusiasm that lives up to its very name. Remember: enthusiasm takes its roots from the Greek “en theos,” which means being “in God.” One who is enthusiastic has God dwelling within them. How might you be so enthusiastic today that, even if you were silenced, everything around you might shout out to the glory of God? Pastor Justin Wiese + The enemies of Jesus want the crowds to stop cheering him on. They had seen all the miracles he had done. They were proclaiming him the Son of God. This was an affront to the Jewish leaders. Jesus told them there was no way he could stop their praise, that all the world would be praising him. No matter how or by whom the word of Jesus is attempted to be put down, it cannot be done. by Rollie Downs ***Note:You can find Rollies devotion in the printed booklet on Nov. 11.
