From TEXAS STORMCHASERS; Snow is beginning to wind down in parts panhandle and is now pushing south and east into western north Texas between Vernon and Crowell, and down into the Permian Basin region of West Texas around Kermit, Wink and Monahans. Sleet/snow mix is also moving into areas north and west of Big Lake and San Angelo. The bulk of today’s snowfall so far has been across the panhandle between Amarillo and Lubbock with roughly 3 1/2 inches reported in and around Canyon. There have been significant impacts to traffic in the panhandle with several fatalities reported and numerous wrecks. The DPS is asking for folks to stay off the roads tonight across the panhandle. Further east across north central Texas, only light rain mixed with some sleet has been reported earlier this afternoon across north central Texas. But with this area largely above freezing this afternoon, impacts have been little to none other than the typical rain-slick roadways.
